Smart batteries for smart cities

For over 50 years, Saft batteries have been delivering high performance, reliability, autonomous operation and long life for all types of wireless devices.

Batteries are becoming even more critical as cities across the world embrace the Internet of Things (IoT). Sensors connect a myriad of assets to the cloud for enhanced communication, visibility and interaction that improves the safety, security and efficiency of every aspect of urban living.

Just one example of the IoT at work is the smart meters used by water companies to combat losses by detecting leaks quickly. Smart meters also help gas and electricity utilities to encourage their customers to become more energy-efficient.

On the roads, smart traffic systems monitor congestion and direct drivers to alternative routes and help them find the nearest available parking space. In retail, sensors monitor stock levels to ensure that popular items never run out and direct delivery services to ensure that the right goods arrive, on time, at the right store.

In addition, the IoT controls smart lighting, building management systems and connected factories. Behind all these applications are Saft batteries, from tiny primary cells for sensors to rechargeable lithium-ion cells powering data centers.
